BHP International is currently carrying out a project for SPA Adwan Chemicals Co – Algeria for implementation of OHSAS 18001:2007 and ISO 14001:2015 international standards
SPA Adwan Chemicals Co – Algeria is based in the Industrial city of Mostaganem which is near to the 2nd largest city of Oran in Algeria. The company is a part of the Adwan Chemicals which is based in Saudi Arabia.
They are into manufacture of sodium silicate and other inorganic chemicals. The implementation part had many challenges. One of the major challenges was the language barrier. French and Arabic are the only languages that are spoken in Algeria and the consultants had to face the tough challenge of communicating the requirements of the standard to the client. Thankfully the barrier was overcome with the help of client representatives who could communicate in English as well as French / Arabic.
Before the start of the project, the consultants gave a training on the OHSAS 18001 :2007 and ISO 14001:2015 standards to all the staff in the company. The training program was a visual gallery of key requirements of both the standards and the module was formulated for easy understanding by all staff in the company.
Although all documents such as procedures and forms were prepared in English, BPH has all the resources to provide the same documents in French language.
